FAQ (Networking Map)

Screen Shot 2024-07-09 at 5.28.45 PM.png

I've signed up for the Networking Map? Now what?

Access to the Networking Map is granted by signing up through the "Map" tab at the top of the page. Once the information is submitted, that section of the site is then accessible to your individual member's account and can be viewed by hovering over the "Map" tab and clicking on the "Networking Map" subpage. Location pins and the individual's information is manually entered by our team and may take between 24-48 hours after signup to be visible.

How do I update my information?

The information on the Networking Map is updated manually by our team and updates may take between 24-48 hours to become visible. To update any of the information on your location pin, please fill out the form located directly underneath the map. Ensure that you fill out the form in its entirety each time you need to update your pin as the information will be transferred exactly as it is filled out.

How do I change the color of my pin?

The pin color is determined what interactions you mark as being open to on the sign-up form. The colors correspond with the tags that are connected to your specific location pin and are used in the filter searches for the map. Since the pin can only show one color, the color is prioritized based on the order below following left to right. The highest priority tag dictates the pins colors, while the following tags are listed under the location's description. In person choices are rated higher as the main purpose of the map is to find others that live close to you. If you wish to have a different colored pin, you can always request that certain tags (interactions you are open to) are notated in the description only. Choosing to do this does mean that your name will not appear in any filter searches containing those tags.

How do I become friends with or contact those listed on the map?

Each member's location pin includes a description that notates what the best way to contact them is whether it be their facebook, phone number, email, website, etc. The Networking Map is merely a list that enables you to reach out via that best contact link to establish correspondence, and potentially culture continued relationships across the globe.

There is no one listed near my location! How do I change that?

As the map only includes those that choose to sign up for it, it is only as extensive as the members allow it to be. The best way to cultivate that growth is to share the link in as many groups as possible to encourage members to join our networking efforts! You never know who will join!

FAQ (Care Sheet/Database)

Forests of Asgard's Complete Care Sheet vs Ultimate Database, what's the difference?

The Complete Care Sheet is a quick reference spreadsheet that is shared as a Google Sheet's link. This link enables a customer to add the Google sheet to their personal Google Drive (see below for instructions). The Complete Care Sheet can be previewed and purchased here. The Ultimate Database is an expansion of the Complete Care Sheet. The Ultimate Database is a portion of our website that is unlocked via a one-time payment and gives a customer access to all the information of the Complete Care Sheet as well as much more! The Ultimate Database can be previewed and purchased here.

How to get a PDF Copy of the Complete Care Sheet:

PDF Copies are available at no additional cost by messaging us directly with the columns that you would like included in the sheet. A few things to note are that due to the high rate of amendment to the information in the care sheet, PDF files quickly become out of date and may need to be resent. Due to the constraints of Google Sheets, columns cannot be split and must be printed in order        (ie. A-E NOT A-B, D-E). If a large amount of columns are requested, PDF files may need to be split into multiple documents so the text is a legible size. Please message us if you have any questions regarding this or would like to request a copy, we are happy to work with you!

Are updates included in the Complete Care Sheet?

The Complete Care Sheet and Ultimate Database are designed to give customer's constant access to the most up to date information after a one-time fee. The Complete Care Sheet automatically shows the most recent additions to information and the Ultimate Database is updated on a monthly basis to reflect any revisions. Updated PDF versions can be requested at any time at no additional cost.

I've bought the Ultimate Database and/or the Networking Map? Now what?

The Ultimate Database is a section of our website that is accessible by a one time payment on the "Database" header tab. Once the payment is made, that section of the website is then opened to your individual member's account and can be viewed by hovering over the "Database" header tab. This includes subpages such as "Care Sheets", "Your Collection", "Google Spreadsheet", "Words to the Wise", and "Taxonomy Breakdown".

How do you search by a certain column in the google sheet?

A large part of the reason why the complete care sheet is shared as a Google Sheets link is to give customers the ability to sort the columns by the type they are looking for, whether it be by the size, environment type, or reproductive rate. First you right click the column header at the top and toggle through the options until the reach the one named "Sort A->Z". This option will sort all of the similar designations together (such as all of the "Dry" species together, etc) with all of the blank rows in that column at the bottom. Clicking "Sort Z->A" will do a similar function, just in the opposite direction. To return it to the original alphabetical view, you just sort A->Z by Column A (or the Scientific Name).

Can't find the species you're looking for?

As we pride ourselves on having the most up to date taxonomy designation for the species within our care guide, some species may go by other names in the community. If you are searching alphabetically and cannot find a species you're looking for, first check the spelling of the species you are trying to find. In the Ultimate Databse, the search bar will automatically search the species for any former names associated with it. In the Complete Care Sheet, if you can still not find the species you are looking for, try using the "Find" function. This searches the entire document for words similar and can specifically search the "Formerly Known As/Incorrect Names" column or if the designation has changed. In the case of multiple similar words, you can use the arrows to toggle through the different instances the searched word appears.

To access this function:

  • Mobile: Click on the ellipses at the top right of the document before selecting the "find and replace" option and typing in the word you are looking for.

  • Apple Computer: Hold "Command" + "F" before typing in the word you are looking for.

  • Windows Computer: Hold "Ctrl" + "F" before typing in the word you are looking for.

If after using the the "Find" function you still cannot find the species you are searching for, contact us or suggest a species addition! There are so many species in the hobby it may be under a different name or we may have not added it onto our sheet yet and would be happy to try and track down more information regarding a new species!

How do you save the Complete Care Sheet to your Google drive?

After opening the share link for the Complete Care Sheet, some google accounts may already save the google sheet to your "Shared with Me" folder in your Google Drive. If it does not automatically save, there are a few steps you can take to add it to your google drive for easy and quick access in the future.

  • Computer: Click the "File" dropdown in the upper left corner of the document and then the "Move" folder before choosing a folder in your drive where you would like the sheet to be located.

  • Mobile: Click the ellipses in the upper right corner of the screen and choose the "Move" folder before choosing a folder in your drive where you would like the sheet to be located.

  • If neither of these options are available, please refer to the Troubleshooting section for additional steps to try!

How do you add species to your Favorites and Collections list?

Once you identify a species you want to add to a list, open the full species page then click the button corresponding to that list. Use the "Tag" button to add a species to your Collection and the "Heart" button to add a species to your Favorites list.

How does the "Approximate Moist Fraction" pertain to setting a new enclosure up?

All enclosures need a moisture gradient to allow the species to self-regulate how they need to. The approximate moisture fraction is meant as a starting place on how to judge how steep of a moisture gradient a specific species needs. This is based off of the soil moisture level by splitting the enclosure into fractions. A moisture level of 1/4th means the enclosure should be approximately 1/4 damp with the rest of the enclosure relatively dry and allowed to create a gradient from there. This fraction is typically expressed along the length of the enclosure. Certain species require a higher percentage of air humidity than soil humidity and is expressed in the sheet with misting (can be done with misting or fog), such as "1/4, Mist 3/4". As with all the information in this sheet, this quantitative data is used as a starting place for the initial set up and maintenance and may need to be altered slightly depending on the outside environmental factors. See below for examples of how these fractions are expressed.

1/2
9/10
1/4, Mist 3/4

Why are the ventilation requirements not included for certain categories of care guides?

Due to the high amount of variables that affect the ventilation requirements of a species, certain tabs will not include the requirements. However, it will be notated in the "Critical Information" column if a particular species in that category is known for requiring a substantially higher amount of ventilation than normal. Below are just some of the many variables that affect the amount of ventilation made for a species' environment.

  1. Ventilation type (holes, built in ventilation, glued mesh, screen top, etc) and the size of the ventilation

  2. Mesh type (screen, cloth, etc) and micron grade (20, 100, 200, 400, etc)

  3. Size of tub (including how much "dead space" is in the tub)

  4. Temperature and humidity of the room the tubs are kept in

  5. Amount of substrate (Deeper substrate holds more humidity) and the ingredients within it

  6. How much maintenance you want to do

  7. Whether there is a heat source on or near the tub increasing the evaporation of the water in the substrate

  8. Whether there is a fan on the tub or near the tub increasing the air circulation

  9. How enclosed the tub is or if the bins are stacked (which affects how much air circulation the environment receives on top of the provided ventilation)

Am I able to donate to the sheet?

I have had a few people ask if it is possible to donate to the sheet in thanks for the work or because they believe it is worth more. I do this out of the wish to help new keepers and bring the community together in the name of progress and love of these more exotic types, not to make a profit off of it. Donations are always accepted and extremely appreciated but never expected. We do have a donation form below but also accept donations via our other payment types as well if requested.

The biggest way to show appreciation is to share the sheet, donate pictures to further the index, or refer keepers that might be willing to donate pictures or care information to help fill in the sheet. We ask that people never be afraid to suggest corrections to the sheet's information or setup, or relay species we do not have on there yet via our "Species Suggestions" to help better the care sheet as a whole.

Google Sheet Troubleshooting

**Note, all these steps require you to be signed into a Google account** If you do not have one and would like the link emailed directly to you so you can save the email into a folder, please contact us and we would be happy to assist you!

If you are receiving an error message trying to accomplish either of the previous steps, or the options are not showing up:

  • Try uninstalling and reinstalling the google sheets or safari app to reset and clear the cache before trying to reopen the link. Restarting your device can also help reset it. If you need the link resent to you, we will happily do so!

  • Try opening the link on a different device, adding it to your Google Drive, and it might be available in your Google Sheets app for the future.

  • We can email the link directly to you rather than how it is originally delivered.

  • If the sheet opens as a pop-up instead of in the Google Sheets app. You can click on the share button, then "Open In Safari". This should then allow you to add the sheet following the above instructions.

If it is still not allowing you to save the sheet to your Google Drive, contact us and we can add you to a group and walk you through additional steps to add it to your folder.
